NTASR News:
We’ve been contacted by several breeders and puppy mills urgently needing to surrender dogs, including:
- 5 Aussies in the Houston area
- 7 Aussies abandoned by their breeder in Arkansas (possibly including a litter of puppies) - If we take in these dogs they will need to go in pairs, as they are extremely afraid of humans and these guys will require decompression time and rehabilitation work.
- A breeder in the Austin, TX area looking to surrender 40 adult Aussies
In addition to these situations, we continue to receive a steady flow of surrender requests through social media and email. The need for fosters has never been greater, and we’re also in desperate need of more volunteers.
Here’s how you can help:
- Fosters Needed: We urgently need foster homes to care for these dogs - share with your friends with herding dog experience even if they are fosters for only 60 days.
- If you haven't fostered in a while (say the last year or so, please fill out a new foster application for us. We have recently changed systems & want to ensure we have all of your recent information.)
**Don't forget we have introduced the "Foster Punchcard"! Foster three dogs for at least 30 days each before the end of 2024, and you'll earn a 10% Family & Friend discount on any adoption. The discount must be redeemed within one year (2025)**
Volunteer Opportunities:
- TikTok Manager: If you have experience with TikTok, we believe we can gain significant traction by increasing our presence there & we need someone who has this unique skill set!
- Donations Team: We need volunteers, or "Welcome Bag Specialists" to reach out for donations to create foster bags filled with essentials like food, heart worm pills, treats, collars and tags, leashes, toys, and more. Donations team may also hold foster supply bags (5-10 bags dependent on area of the metroplex) to help easily distribute supply bags to our newest fosters.
- Grant Writers: If you have experience writing grants, we would greatly appreciate your help.
- Local Contacts: As we expand into new areas of Texas, we need contacts (foster support team, fundraising teams, community outreach (builds relationships with local city shelters, and feed stores), trainers, transport) in those regions to help provide additional support.
Your involvement makes a tremendous difference. If you’re interested in any of these opportunities or have ideas on how you can help, please reach out to us.
If you have a foster pup whose story deserves to be highlighted or a testimonial about why you foster with NTASR, we’d love to hear from you! Please email us at [email protected] Your stories help inspire others to join our rescue efforts and community, whether through donations, fostering, or adoption. 💙 So far, we haven't gotten any foster stories / testimonials 😞 Could you be the FIRST?! These can be anonymous foster stories and testimonials, just let us know.
Upcoming Events & Current Fundraisers:
We are actively working towards another t-shirt fundraiser, and NTASR swag for our fosters - T-shirts so fosters are easily identified! ☺️

September Heartworm Prevention - NTASR provides heartworm treatment for your foster dog. Please note that puppies will not receive heartworm treatment until they are over 6 months old. - PLEASE Fill out the Medical Request Form & we will get HW prevention mailed to you!
Thank you for being an essential part of NTASR, and for taking the time to read this week’s Foster Paws. I hope these updates are helpful for everyone, keeping us all in the loop and reminding you that you're part of something big. Since NTASR started in late 2020, we’ve taken in over 1,200 dogs. This number doesn’t even include the other animals—like opossums and cats—that we’ve helped through our partnerships with other rescues and our outreach efforts to support the rescue community with essential supplies. ❤️

Important Reminders for Foster Care:
If you've had your foster dog for two weeks or more, and they aren't on the adoption page: www.ntxaussierescue.org/adopt
PLEASE use our FOSTER INTAKE FORM. This will allow you to get all the information we need to us, bio, personality traits, as well as photos!

Don't forget if you need to schedule vetting or request supplies that can be done through the FOSTER RESOURCES page.
Please Remember:
- Puppies <12 Weeks: No interaction with outside dogs or house guests.
- Going out of town? Please leverage the Foster Facebook Group to see if another Foster is able to keep your foster while you are gone.
- Meet and Greets: Arrange only through us. All interested parties must have an approved application on file.
- Vet Appointments: If you can't make it, please inform us 24 hours before. Follow all pre & post-op instructions (no food after 8 PM the night before or the morning of surgery; medication can be given until 10 PM but not on the morning of surgery).
- Public Outings: Fully vaccinated dogs can visit pet stores but not public dog parks. Ensure they always wear a collar with a rescue tag, harness, and leashes. Children under 12 should not pet foster dogs in public for safety & liability reasons.
Thank you for keeping our foster dogs safe!
We want to hear👂from you!
