Happy Labor Day ,
As we welcome in fall, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible strides we’ve made in August and share some exciting updates with you. NTASR was featured on Texas Today NBC 5!
August started off with a DOGust Celebration, celebrating all of the rescue and shelter pups birthdays, cake and doggy ice cream was served and each left with a bandana and a toy after a few hours of socialization and play with new faces. Many dogs left more confident after a few hours of exposure. It was truly amazing to watch these babies come out of their shells before our eyes!
In the first week of August we took in nine dogs, one was a heavy medical case (A single eye, and deaf) with severe oozing wounds to his face and a snake bite, Hooey. Hooey is only one year old and had such a rough hand delt to him, he's super resilient and we have seen him bloom into a new dog as he has started to feel better & now almost has a full coat again!
We also had a heartwarming success with the adoption of 25 dogs, finding them loving forever homes.
NTASR has been putting out Monday Rescue stories featuring some of our past rescue dogs. Not only do these courageous pups have amazing stories of triumph, but many of them led us to many other dogs we were able to rescue. Rio for example lead us to rescuing more of his family, brining in a total of 12 Aussies into rescue from his staggering tail.
Support NTASR through the purchase of a Seasonal Spirit or Adopt, Don't Shop Shirt ! These designs are both limited time runs - order them while you can!
We’ve been contacted by several breeders and puppy mills urgently needing to surrender dogs, including:
- 5 Aussies in the Houston area
- 7 Aussies abandoned by their breeder in Arkansas (possibly including a litter of puppies) - If we take in these dogs they will need to go in pairs, as they are extremely afraid of humans and these guys will require decompression time and rehabilitation work.
- A breeder in the Austin, TX area looking to surrender 40 adult Aussies
In addition to these situations, we continue to receive a steady flow of surrender requests through social media and email. The need for fosters has never been greater, and we’re also in desperate need of more volunteers.
Here’s how you can help:
- Fosters Needed: We urgently need foster homes to care for these dogs - share with your friends with herding dog experience even if they are fosters for only 60 days.

As we look towards the future, we have some ambitious goals for 2025:
- Hosting FREE community vaccine events
- Creating a calendar of low-cost spay/neuter events and vaccination clinics
- Organizing exciting dog-oriented events
We are committed to advocating for more regulated animal welfare and breeding restrictions in Texas. The overpopulation of animals and the horrendous conditions they often endure are unacceptable, and we are determined to drive meaningful change for these voiceless creatures.
A Heartfelt Thanks to Our August Partners
We want to extend a HUGE thank you to our incredible partners who made a significant impact in August. We are 100% more effective when we join forces as a rescue community. Thanks to your support,
Special Thanks To:
A special shoutout to our fosters—we couldn’t do what we do without your hours of love and dedication to these dogs. NTASR launched a "Foster Punchcard" to show our appreciation to our dedicated foster community. Those who foster three dogs, for at least 30 days (per dog), before the end of 2024, earns a 10% Family & Friend discount on any adoption. We will likely carry this new benefit into 2025 to encourage growth with our foster community.
This community is truly inspiring. Thank you for being a part of our rescue efforts and helping us make a difference!
