š„ Happy New Year, !
What a Start ā Hereās to the Tail-Wags & Wiggles Weāll Share in 2025!
As we step into 2025, we reflect on the incredible journey we took together in 2024āa year of growth, resilience, and compassion. Thanks to your unwavering support, we rescued 358 dogs, found loving homes for 243, and partnered with rescues to give 61 more a second chance.
We know this newsletter is a bit of a long read, but trust usāitās worth it, especially for the treat waiting at the end!
But the numbers only tell part of the story. We welcomed litters of playful puppies, helped 19 double merles find their light despite challenges, and tackled tough medical cases with dedication. We teamed up with shelters across North Texas, celebrated repeat adopters, and watched our community rally around us in ways that left us inspired and humbled. But first, a quick President's Corner.Ā
As we leave 2024 behind and step into the new year, I want to take a moment to thank you for being an integral part of the NTASR family. This December, NTASR will celebrate its 5th anniversary, and Iām deeply aware that none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of the amazing individuals and families who have stood by us along the way.
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for showing up, for answering every call, and for spreading the word about the work weāre doing to your family, friends, coworkers, church members, car wash attendants, mail carriers, Amazon driversāanyone who will listen. What began as a simple desire to help has grown into a passionate mission. What started as a small group of Aussie lovers has blossomed into a familyāone that fights together, supports one another, and loves deeply. If I could personally give each of you a hug, I would. Thank you for being part of NTASR and for proudly representing the Aussie Posse!
As we look ahead, 2025 is shaping up to be a year filled with big wins, unexpected challenges, tough decisions, and significant progress toward addressing the epidemic of animal abuse and abandonment. Weāre opening our hearts wider, knowing they may be broken again by the atrocities animals continue to face. At the same time, weāre dreaming bigger: envisioning a transport vehicle to help save more animals, exploring the possibility of having our own dedicated space to shelter Aussies in crisis, and finding ways to provide meaningful support to our communities.
This year, we aim to make an impact by offering vaccinations and spay/neuter services at little to no cost for families in need. With grace and compassion, weāre also striving to help keep animals in their homes, working to overcome the challenges many families face. Together, we will continue to fight for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Finally, Iād like to introduce you to the incredible individuals who make up the NTASR Leadership Team.
Please donāt hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions, ideas, or just to say hello. We truly enjoy hearing from you and love seeing updates on our alumni pups.
Thank you for being the heart and soul of NTASR!
Until next time, give those belly rubs, boop the snoots, and shower your fur-babies with kisses from me!
Best,Ā
Samantha Anderson
Rescue is a journey filled with both joy and heartbreak. This year, we said goodbye to three special soulsāArdie, Sonic, and Casper. Their stories will forever be etched in our hearts and remind us of why we do what we do.
Ardieās Story
Ardie came to us from the wreckage of a tornado in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He suffered a traumatic injury to his left pawĀ and urgently needed care. Despite our best efforts, he passed away during surgery. His bravery and sweet spirit left a lasting impression, and we honor his legacy as a reminder of the fragility and strength of the animals we fight for every day.
Ā
Sonicās Story
Sonic was surrendered by a breeder who had neglected him. When he arrived at NTASR, he was terrified of the world. Under the care of his foster mom, Kelli, Sonic began to trust again. Tragically, he escaped his foster home and was struck by a car. Though his time with us was brief, Sonic experienced kindness for the first time, and for that, we are grateful.
Casperās Story
Casper, a senior Aussie, was surrendered after years of being a breederās dog. He arrived frail and suffering from a severe anal prolapse. Knowing he couldnāt heal, we ensured his final days were filled with love, comfort, and dignity. Casper passed away surrounded by people who cared for him deeply, knowing he was cherished.
Each of these dogs left a pawprint on our hearts and inspires us to keep going, even when itās hard. Their stories drive us to continue our mission, fighting for a future where every dog knows love, care, and a safe home.

This year, NTASR played a pivotal role in one of the largest and most impactful rescues in our history. For the past five years, we have fought to shut down a massive puppy mill operation in Milburn, Oklahomaāa place where hundreds of dogs were living in deplorable conditions, exploited for profit and neglected to the point of suffering from severe medical issues. These dogs, many of them puppies or pregnant mothers, endured unimaginable conditions, and their lives were little more than a cycle of breeding.
In March 2024, after years of painstaking reporting, investigation, and collaboration with authorities, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) took action and rescued 250 dogsāmany of them pregnant or with newborn littersāfrom this facility. This was only the beginning of the journey to help these dogs. Though the mill owners retained ownership of the dogs at that time, the pups and adult dogs were placed in HSUSās care, marking a significant turning point.
Fast forward to June 29, 2024. After multiple arrests, criminal charges, and extended legal battles, the dogs were finally granted their freedom. This marked the end of a long road for these animals and a triumph for all of us whoāve fought to bring their plight to light.
On that day, 250 dogs were finally released from the holding facility and the care of HSUS, making their way into the hands of rescue organizations & shelters from across the country. This monumental operation marked the culmination of years of unwavering dedication, relentless advocacy, and collaboration between countless individuals and organizations.
NTASR was honored to take in 51 of these brave souls, each one showing remarkable resilience and determination to heal from their traumatic past. Our leadership played a key role in this rescue operationāconnecting with partner rescues, coordinating transports, and ensuring that these dogs, who had lived in cages and neglect for so long, were finally given the opportunity to experience love, safety, and a fresh start.
On the weekend of June 29, NTASR facilitated a massive transport operation, covering over 11,000 miles to get these dogs to their new homes across the country (Pei People Shar Pei Rescue, The Asher House, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Austin were just a handful of the rescues who stepped up to support the intake of these dogs). The effort was nothing short of heroic. Rescue organizations, volunteers, and countless supporters came together to ensure that these 51 dogs would finally know the joy of a loving home.
This rescue stands as one of the largest and most successful efforts weāve ever been a part ofāand it was made possible because of the incredible work of HSUS, the Johnston County Sheriffās Department, and the unwavering dedication of people like you, who helped us give these dogs a second chance.
Transport Map (11,000 Miles)
The Milburn puppy mill rescue was a defining moment for us, not only because of the scope of the operation but also because it shed light on the sheer number of dogs affected by puppy mills every year. These animals are not just numbersāthey have individual stories, personalities, and futures. For every dog rescued, we know that we have prevented countless other lives from being filled with suffering.
Thanks to our supporters, we were able to provide these dogs with immediate care, medical attention, and transport to their new homes. While this was a massive undertaking, we know that this is just one chapter in the ongoing fight against puppy mills.
Weāre committed to continuing this battleānot just through rescues like this one, but through education, advocacy, and community efforts to end the cycle of cruelty that so many dogs endure. The work we do with you by our side is just getting started, and together, we will ensure that no dog suffers in silence again.
In the last six months of 2024, we received 124 surrender requests, from financial struggles to housing challenges. While we canāt take them all in, we do our best to help keep pets with their families when possible.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to host food donation drives, with the Grinch & Give event (supporting Donāt Forget to Feed Me) in December being a huge success. You helped fill our pantry and hearts, ensuring pets in need would have food heading into the new year.
š¾ Community Vaccination Clinics ā Weāre planning affordable vaccine clinics to ensure pets have access to the care they need to live longer, healthier lives.
š¾ North Texas Low-Cost Vetting Event Calendar ā Think of this as your go-to guide for low-cost vaccine and spay/neuter clinics, plus fun dog-centric happenings. No more digging around for infoāweāve got you covered! Ā
š¾ A Big Dream on Wheels š ā Itās no secret: big rescues are becoming our thing. But the truth is, our Presidentās trusty Subaru just doesnāt cut it anymore (seriously, only so many wiggle butts can fit in one car). A transport vehicle would be a total game-changer, helping us rescue and rehome even more Aussies and their friends. Ā
š¾ Become a Foster ā Fostering helps us save more lives! With your support, we can rescue more dogs, provide them with the care they need, and help them find their forever homes. We provide all the support you need.
š¾ Donate & Save ā This January, donate a 20lb bag or larger of kibble to benefit Donāt Forget to Feed Me, and weāll take $50 off your adoption fee! Offer valid for January 2025 only.
š¾ Financial Donations ā Your contributions help us cover medical expenses, supplies, and rescue efforts. Every dollar makes a difference. Email us for additional donation options [email protected]Ā
š¾ Spread the Word ā Help us by sharing rescue stories and events with friends and family. You never know who might be looking to adopt or foster!
This past year, youāve helped us achieve so much. From donations and fosters to cheering us on at events, youāve been with us every step of the way. We canāt wait to see what weāll accomplish together in 2025.
