February may be the shortest month of the year, but for NTASR, it felt like one of the longest. From heartbreaking rescues to joyful adoptions, it was a month filled with highs, lows, and everything in between.
We rescued 40 dogs, found loving homes for 21, and currently have 98 (and counting) in our care—each one relying on us for safety, medical care, and a second chance. But the growing need stretched our resources to the limit.
Vet bills alone hit nearly $7,000, with our overall expenses exceeding income by $4,800. From 22 puppies needing vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries to medical cases like Winnie Mae, Monkey, and Snow Angel fighting heartworm, and Astro, a double merle needing eye surgery, the need never slows down. Even our senior corgis, Coleman Willie & Annie Oakley, required much-overdue dental work—each losing 14 teeth, adding another $2,300 to our vet bills.
This month brought us Sully & Ralphie’s heartbreaking yet hopeful rescue, the continued journey of the Arkansas Thirteen, the joyful send-off of the Coffee Litter to their forever homes, and the exciting news of Lady Nutmeg’s soon-to-arrive puppies.
Rescue is relentless. But so are we. It takes a village, and we’re so grateful you’re part of ours.

Sully & Ralphie
Some rescue stories break your heart—Sully and Ralphie’s is one of them.
Thrown into a burn pile in rural Arkansas, these two puppies were the only survivors of an unthinkable act of cruelty. They lay helpless among their lost siblings, their tiny cries fading into the brush.
By some miracle, they held on.
Sully’s jaw is badly broken, making every meal painful. Ralphie is physically okay, but the emotional scars will take time to heal. Their fight isn’t over yet.
Pilots to the Rescue: HUGE Thanks to an incredible flight instructor, Keith, and his student, the brothers made it safely to us late Thursday night. They are now with their loving foster family, and we’re tackling their medical care head-on.
This community always steps up, and we are so grateful. But with mounting medical bills and more dogs in need every day, we need your help to give Sully and Ralphie the second chance they deserve.
Because no puppy should ever be left behind.
The Arkansas Thirteen—Onward and Upward!
The Arkansas Thirteen have faced many challenges, but they continue to show us just how resilient they are! After battling Ehrlichia (30 days of antibiotics, phew!) and completing their vetting, including spays and neuters, they are truly thriving. Each pup is coming into their own—some are sweet and playful, while others are turning into rambunctious ranch-loving dogs or adventurous souls who love hikes with their people. All of them share a strong desire to please.
Unfortunately, three of our Arkansas pups—Monkey, Winnie Mae, and Snow Angel—have tested positive for heartworms. But don’t worry, we’re not backing down! Their treatment is scheduled, and we’re doing everything we can to help them heal and thrive.
A Little Surprise...
In the midst of all this, Lady Nutmeg has a big surprise for us—she’s expecting! 🐶 Due in just 1 week, she’ll be welcoming 7-8 little ones into the world! We’re preparing for her arrival and making sure she has everything she needs to raise her pups in the best possible way.
The best part? Some of our Arkansas pups are now ready for adoption! We’ve already had a few foster fails (we’re never mad about that!), and now our foster families are reviewing adoption applications. We’re hopeful that by next month, all of them will be in loving forever homes!

Coffee Litter Update:
We’re also thrilled to share that the Coffee Litter, which was part of the Arkansas Thirteen but had its own journey, is now safe and sound in their forever homes! These sweet little pups have come so far—from tiny, fragile babies to strong, happy pups—and we’re beyond excited for the bright futures ahead of them.
A huge shoutout to Brook, our incredible foster, who cared for 17 dogs (yes, 17!) for 8 weeks while juggling everything else in her life. Brook, you are truly a superhero, and we can’t thank you enough for all the love, care, and patience you gave to these pups!
Every adoption reminds us how much can change with a little love, care, and time. We’re overjoyed to see these pups head off to their forever homes, and we can’t wait to hear about all the adventures they’ll have!
We’re so excited to watch all of these pups continue to grow and thrive, and we can’t wait to share their happy endings with you! 🐾💖
