Hi , welcome to this month’s edition of the Woof Wire! We’re so grateful to have you with us on this journey of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming these AUS-Some dogs. This October, we’ve been busy with adoptions, special events, and countless new beginnings. Plus, stay tuned for a special note from our president, Samantha Anderson, reflecting on the amazing strides we’ve made together and the important work ahead!

October Highlights & News:

What a month it’s been! October kept us busy with five fantastic events, which brought in incredible support from our community and helped us reach a huge milestone—39 adoptions! This was our second-largest month for adoptions, with July holding strong at 48. Each time a dog finds their forever home, it reminds us of why we work so hard.

Due to the high number of dogs in our care, NTASR had to pause new intakes temporarily. We started October with a staggering 96 dogs under our wings, including four litters of puppies. Our commitment to ensuring each puppy receives all three rounds of vaccinations before adoption is essential for their health, but also costly. Each pup costs around $380 in vetting alone, even before they’re spayed or neutered at six months.

We also had a big win with Hooey, one of our special cases, a double merle (deaf & vision impaired). After battling MRSA, a staph infection, and mange, Hooey required a week-long stay at the vet, resulting in $2,800 in vetting costs. Thanks to his resilient spirit, an amazing foster mom, and the incredible support from our NTASR family, Hooey’s coat is now filling in beautifully, and he’s feeling better than ever. Hooey has been with us since early August, bravely battling various skin irritations and allergies on top of the challenges he was born with as a double merle. His transformation is nothing short of inspiring!

In addition to the regular care we provide, a few of our pups have faced extra health hurdles this past month. Mo, a 3-month-old mini double merle Aussie, recently experienced a seizure and, after extensive testing, was diagnosed with Addison’s disease. This condition affects the adrenal glands, which don’t produce enough hormones, leading to symptoms like fatigue, digestive issues, and even seizures. Thankfully, Addison’s is treatable with medication, and Mo has already started his regimen to keep his hormones balanced.

One Eyed Jack is also having seizures - he's a sweet Double merle boy who is deaf and only has one fully developed eye.

Another recent intake, Alexis, an 11-month-old red tri beauty, also had a seizure shortly after joining us. She’s under close observation, and our vets are working to determine the best care plan for her. Meanwhile, we’re preparing for November’s arrivals, which include four double merle puppies. These pups, like Mo, may face hidden medical challenges due to their genetics, but we’re grateful to have the support of Deaf Dogs Rock, an amazing organization that helps cover some of the specialized care double merles often require. With your continued support, we’re able to give these dogs the best chance at a healthy, happy life.

Thank you for making this work possible—your continued support means everything to us and to these wonderful dogs. Here's to keeping the momentum going as we head into November! 🐾

These are just two of the deserving dogs we’re committed to bringing into NTASR this November—but they need loving foster homes to start their journey to a better life! If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the perfect time to make a difference. Opening your home, even for a short time, gives these pups a safe, caring space to heal and grow. Apply to foster today and become a lifeline for a dog in need!

Donations: Each month, we've been operating in the red, and while we don’t want to ask too often, your support is what keeps us going. We have several donation options available, and every bit of help allows us to continue rescuing and rehabilitating more dogs.

A Message from Samantha

As we jump into the last few months of the year, I wanted to just say THANK YOU!

So far this year, we’ve spent over $80,000 saving animals in need, shut down a prominent puppy mill, reported multiple major cases of animal abuse, and rescued over 500 animals. None of this would be possible without the support of our fosters, donors, transporters, and my incredible administrative team. I can’t even begin to describe how much NTASR has grown in the last quarter, but I can tell you—it’s big.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine NTASR would become the go-to Aussie rescue in Texas, but here we are. We’re being approached for branded campaigns (stay tuned on our socials!), securing sponsorships we couldn’t have dreamed of four years ago, and partnering with incredible organizations making world-changing strides.

As we look toward the end of the year, let’s keep our eyes on the goal of finding a loving home for every animal in our care. Just imagine what it would mean for each of these animals to have a place where they’re loved, safe, and adored—perhaps for the first time in their lives. That’s the gift we’re working to give.

I know the NTASR family can make the magic of the holiday season happen, and I’m counting on you to continue being the voice for these sweet animals. Thank you for supporting us in all the ways you do. Truly, YOU ARE NTASR!

With Love & Gratitude,
Samantha Anderson, President
