With North Texas Giving Day just around the corner on 9/19, we're excited to spotlight one of our most inspiring rescues: Prancer. Since 2020, NTASR has given over 1,200 dogs a second chance, but Prancer’s story truly stands out. His incredible journey from despair to joy exemplifies the heart of our mission. Dive into Prancer's remarkable transformation and see firsthand why your support makes all the difference.

Back in September 2020, Prancer was abandoned at a rural Oklahoma shelter, left behind by the only family he had ever known. This sweet boy had been run over, backed over, and run over again by his family, who, instead of taking him to an emergency vet, left him to suffer in their driveway.

What they didn’t know was that despite the pain and neurological complications he would face, Prancer had an incredible will to live.

When the shelter reached out to us, we were committed to giving him a chance at a better life.

Though the neurological damage Prancer had suffered was irreversible, we were determined to help him. He couldn’t understand basic commands and had to start from scratch. Prancer had lost control of his bladder and bowels, and even though he had been previously potty trained, he had to be retrained. He needed to relearn how to walk on a leash, navigate stairs, and avoid falling. His gait and inability to walk or run straight were among the most noticeable traumas. These challenges made it clear that Prancer needed a special home and that finding the right one would take time.

Fast forward 1 year and 3 months, when we finally received an application from a kindhearted woman that had both the patients, and the compassion that was needed for Prancer to be placed successfully in his forever home.

Three years later, and Prancer now Mikey is living his best life. He loves watching Television, playing with his furry sibling, snuggling with his mom, snacking on popcorn, and napping while hanging off of the couch.
